How?

I’m not shy about asking for help.

A friend and I recently volunteered with a nonprofit that creates cozy living spaces for families who have recently transitioned from housing insecurity. Our volunteer assignment was to put together a metal bed frame. The instructions only included pictures, numbers and letters. Mind you, I’m a visual learner who likes to see words along with images.

After the two of us struggled with completing a step, I texted my younger son a photo and the word, “how?” He texted back what we needed to do. And it worked.

Facing a challenge – communications or otherwise – can be a lot like this bed frame experience. How long do you wait before asking for help? Where do you turn to make the pieces fit?
