It feels good to move in the same direction.
When we aren’t pulled in multiple directions, we can work together to uncover the obstacles and discover the opportunities. We can share a common goal and camaraderie with our colleagues to accomplish the tasks at hand.
However, moving in the same direction doesn’t mean sharing the same ideas, backgrounds and perspectives. Au contraire. Only diversity of thought and experiences can help us identify the most effective ways to move forward to achieve our goals.
The next time you are developing a communications plan, for example, be sure to invite more people to be part of your journey. Reach a consensus on the direction, namely, where you want to go. Then, encourage people to provide their different perspectives on how you’re going to get there together.
