Off the Beaten Path

Place one foot in front of the other. If you trip, pick yourself up, brush off the dirt and repeat. That’s what hiking and life seem to have in common. A trusted trail map or a five-year plan doesn’t always show us the fallen trees or obstacles in our way. Do we slog through the mud, cross the stream or turn around and head back to the car when the trail gets rough?

What Are We Doing to Keep the Wolf from the Door?

Until lately, I didn’t worry about the majestic mammals found in wolf sanctuaries, national parks and the wild. What did it matter if these carnivorous mammals huffed and puffed to blow the house down or pretended to be Little Red Riding Hood’s grandmother? These were just fairy tales. Not anymore. Nowadays, wolves are among the many wild animals wandering our deserted streets as we shelter at home.

Driven to Drink

It feels a bit like the ‘80s, but with a twist. Back then, we left our desks to meet for lunch over martinis and cocktails. Today, millions of Americans are drinking at their desks during the COVID-19 outbreak, according to multiple worker surveys. About 42% of nearly 13,000 workers were drinking while working from home, according to survey results released April 20 by Fishbowl, a career social network.

Have You Had Enough?

Chances are if you feel like screaming in this COVID-19 world so does your colleague, client, neighbor and loved one. Who can blame us? It’s hard to swallow the staggering news about novel coronavirus, unemployment, stock market drops and more. We’re worried about our health, our families, our livelihoods and our future. The last thing we need right now is another slogan that sugarcoats our situation.
