How often do we think before we act?
Over the weekend, I watched the TikTok “ick” video that got four nurses fired for mocking patients. While I don’t know these Atlanta labor and delivery nurses personally, I feel bad for them. It’s hard not to get caught up in a challenge. However, because of a momentary lapse in judgment, these dedicated healthcare workers became “former employees.”
Emory Healthcare issued a swift, online statement, “This video does not represent our commitment to patient- and family-centered care and falls short of the values and standards we expect every member of our team to hold and demonstrate.”
As a public relations professional, I can imagine the tough conversations behind closed doors.
This controversy could have been avoided if one colleague reminded everyone to pause and ponder like “The Thinker,” a bronze sculpture now on display at Atlanta’s High Museum, about a mile up the street from the hospital where the video happened.
Tell me what you think about this TikTok controversary and the outcome.
